The authority urged motorists to use the two through lanes, approach the affected sections with caution, and follow traffic signs and guidance from traffic police and marshals.

"The Authority remains committed to ensuring seamless connectivity to facilitate safe passage for economic prosperity," the statement read in part.

KURA announces closure of key roads

Earlier, on May 1, the Kenya Urban Roads Authority (KURA) announced the partial closure of crucial roads within Nairobi and Kiambu counties because of heavy floods.

KURA said the heavy rains experienced had made the affected roads impassable. Among the roads were closed are sections of Thika Superhighway and the Eastern Bypass.

KURA advised motorists plying the affected routes to avoid attempting to cross flooded sections as the technical team tried to clear the ways.

KeNHA announces the opening of Thika Road

Later, on that same day, KeNHA announced the opening of sections of Thika Road that were initially closed due to floods.

In a press statement released on May 1, KeNHA stated that the Thika Superhighway at the Kahawa Sukari Drift between Kahawa Barracks and Kenyatta University had been opened for Thika-bound traffic.
