Wainaina was eulogized as a community pillar and a beacon of light for church members.

Many of the mourners admitted that his sudden departure has left a void that can never be filled.

The ceremony featured a series of moving tributes, with a giant banner with Wainaina's photograph standing tall near the grave.

Faces of disbelief told the story of a man who left behind a rich legacy that would live on through the lives he touched.

Wainaina is survived by his wife and children, who, amidst their sorrow, expressed gratitude for the outpouring of support.

In an obituary published in the dailies, Wainaina's family hailed him as a devoted father to his three children and a cherished husband to his wife.

They also praised him for his good relationship with his grandchildren, Mikyler Njeri Mwangi, Juan Njau Njunguna, and Luciana Wanjiku Mwangi.

“We are comforted by the fact that he lived a life full of purpose and that he is now at peace,” his wife eulogised.

Where did Wainaina work?

The elder served with dedication at the Ministry of Works and at the New KCC Ltd before retiring in 2017.

Post-retirement, the 67-year-old was engaged in engineering through contracts until his passing on May 19.

Wainaina's last words

Social media users have raised questions over a woman who was heard screaming in the congregation a few seconds before Wainaina collapsed.

Among the last words Wainaina muttered before collapsing words were, "God our light, our hope, and our strength."

Wainaina's body was reserved at Kenyatta University Teaching and Referal Home before it was taken for burial at his farm in Nakuru, Ngacura area.

As the final prayers were said and the casket was lowered, a shared sense of loss hovered over the mourners.

Wainaina's journey on the pulpit may have ended, but his devotion will remain etched in the hearts of many for years to come.
