According to a study conducted by Bookipi on the freelancing platform Upwork, Kenyan freelancers secured the ninth position among countries with the cheapest charges based on data from Upwork.

Upwork serves as a hub connecting freelancers with businesses worldwide. The study extensively analyzed data related to average pricing for prevalent services like logo design, video editing, and data entry.

Bookipi's analysis sheds light on the global landscape of freelance labor costs, focusing particularly on 40 countries whose data allowed for fair comparison as reported by Africa Business Insider.

Why freelancers command a higher pay

Bookipi Chief Executive Officer Tim Lee highlighted the diversity of the company's workforces hence the team's interest in how different experiences are reflected through the costs of freelance workers worldwide.

"Typically, countries with robust economies and high living standards tend to host the most expensive freelancers, which the data reflects by finding Australia as the most expensive freelance country," Lee said as reported by Manila Times.

Tim added that the case in Australia also holds true for India, the second-ranked country in the list, freelancers often have the opportunity to demand higher rates due to their specialised skills and expertise in sectors like software development, IT services, and digital marketing.
