A Kenyan man employed in Qatar expressed heartfelt gratitude to his wife for backing his choice to relocate to the Arabian state in pursuit of better opportunities.

Douglas Obuya Mogeni, 28, from Kisii, shared that his barber business in Kangemi, Nairobi, wasn't thriving, and he was grappling with mounting bills.

What role did Mogeni's wife perform?

In an exclusive interview with TUKO.co.ke, Mogeni credited his wife, who is currently studying, for inspiring and encouraging him to embark on the journey to Qatar to improve their circumstances.

"My business was not doing well. The bills and especially rent were overwhelming. I used to make roughly KSh 30,000 a month and my rent was about KSh 15,000. From the remaining cash, I found it difficult to save for our child, settle other bills and even support my wife's education and father back home. So we had to sit down as a family and agree on a way that could change our lives for the better. To my surprise, she supported me 100%," he disclosed.

According to Mogeni's account, his wife's unwavering support exceeded his expectations, inspiring him to begin the process of securing travel documents.

Despite lacking funds, he reached out to both family and friends for financial assistance.

"I had no money at the time, but we were determined to proceed with my journey. My family provided a loan of KSh 100,000, while our friends contributed another KSh 150,000. Soon after, I obtained a passport in just two weeks.
My wife remained my support system even at a time my brothers expressed doubt," he recounted.

What is Douglas Mogeni doing in Qatar?

Before heading to Qatar, the father of one had already found employment to go work as a security personnel, with a salary of over KSh 60,000.

After a few months, he managed to repay all his loans.

He expressed his intention to fulfil his three-year contract, and if his financial goals weren't achieved by then, he would consider renewing the contract.

Mogeni harbours ambitions of becoming an employer in the near future.

He implored individuals not to disregard the Arabian states based on criticism from those who haven't experienced life there firsthand.

"Every individual has their destiny, so it's not inevitable to endure the alleged mistreatments," he emphasised.

Sharing his own experience, he highlighted that he resides with colleagues from various nations in the same accommodation, and none of them have encountered the imagined mistreatment.

"People should channel their energy towards improving their lives rather than heeding naysayers. Each of us has a unique journey, and challenges exist everywhere. As long as you stay focused in this foreign land, you can stay as long as you want and meet all your targets," he advised.
