A Kenyan woman's dream of reuniting with her American husband has hit a bureaucratic wall, leaving her family fragmented across continents.
Mark Stancil, a United States Navy veteran, has taken to seeking President Joe Biden’s intervention after his wife was denied a visa to relocate to the US. Speaking with Common Dreams, Stancil expressed his anguish over the ordeal, emphasising the toll it has taken on their family.
"As an American citizen, I never thought I would be forced to choose between love and country," he lamented.

The couple's journey began over a decade ago when Stancil, who resides in Missouri, lost his first wife.
Deborah, his Kenyan wife, entered his life during a missionary trip to Kenya, sparking an instant connection.
Their union blossomed into marriage, with Stancil adopting Deborah's daughter and the couple welcoming a baby girl. Despite their plans to relocate to the US, the process was derailed by the denial of Deborah's visa at the US Embassy in Kenya.
Stancil questioned the discrepancy in the approval of his daughter's visa but the rejection of his wife's, leading to their painful separation. With their children split between countries, Stancil appealed for government intervention, stressing the hardships of their situation.
In a related story, after enduring three years of delay, a Kenyan woman, identified as Marie, finally reunited with her Mzungu husband in the US.
The emotional reunion took place at the airport, marking the end of a lengthy period of visa-related challenges that kept the family apart.
The long-awaited moment they arrived after their marriage visa was approved, allowing them to join Marie's husband, living in America during their separation.
The scene was filled with overwhelming emotions as they reunited at the airport.
