Kenyans have expressed their disappointment towards the loud silence of the National Disaster Management Unit (NDMU) as Kenyans continue to suffer from floods.
The NDMU is tasked to effectively prepare for and respond to emergencies, and manage recovery and mitigation efforts in Kenya, in collaboration with stakeholders.
The department also provides a clear leadership, command, control, and coordinated approach to disaster mitigation, prevention, preparedness, response, and recovery.

However, since the onset of the floods, the department has not given any directions to Kenyans following the raging effects of floods, prompting Kenyans to question their duties in time when they are needed more.

On Wednesday Kenya Red Cross continued with its rescue mission in Kitengela, Kajiado county after heavy down pour at night flooding houses and pathways.
In an update by Kenya Red Cross, 11 people were rescued, while efforts continue to reach others stranded in their houses.
"Eleven people and one dog rescued so far. Efforts to reach others in this challenging operation continue. However, floodwaters are slowly subsiding," Kenya Red Cross said.
On Monday, April 29, the government through the Ministry of Water and Sanitation said the accident was caused by a blocked railway line tunnel obstructing the natural flow of water through River Tongi.
Nakuru governor Susan Kihika also confirmed that 71 lives were lost from the incident, and rescue operations by the Kenya Red Cross are still underway.
