Kirinyaga: Body Of Woman Who Fell Into River With Child Strapped On Her Back Recovered

Kirinyaga - The body of a 29-year-old woman who fell into River Nyamindi on Saturday, May 4, has been found.

Where was Maureen Wangui's body found?

The woman, identified as Maureen Wangui, drowned with her 5-year-old child strapped on her back in Kabiroini village, Gichungu constituency.

Her uncle, Stephen Kinyua, said the body was recovered 10 kilometres downstream by residents who were harvesting sand.

Kinyua said the residents who had heard the news on the media called them to the scene to identify the body of Wangui.

“The body was discovered by residents who were out harvesting grass on the riverbanks. The people who found the body said that they had heard the news on Inooro FM about a woman who had drowned with her child, and so they decided to inform the authorities, as well as pass the message to us family members,” Kinyua said as reported by Citizen Digital.

During the search, the divers also discovered a third body of an unidentified man, which was transported to Kerugoya mortuary for identification.

The body of the 29-year-old woman was taken to Kibugi Funeral Home Kutus, where her five-year-old daughter's body had been previously taken.

Who is Shiro Ka Ribui?

In another sad news, a young medic and her daughter tragically passed on under unclear circumstances.

Shiro Ka Ribui, also known as Mama Bella, reportedly harmed herself alongside her daughter Bella.

An active social media user, the mother of one regularly updated her status before she stopped and resumed publishing disturbing posts.

It is not clear what transpired leading to the tragedy that has left Nyeri residents in shock and disbelief.

Ribui seemed to have resorted to seeking help from friends online, with various posts painting a grim image of her mental state before her death.
