A young man, who was caught dancing near sports journalist Fred Arocho just moments before Arocho lost his phone, has responded to allegations of theft.

Owira Mogo took to Facebook to deny the claims.

Who stole Fred Arocho's phone?

According to Owira, he was merely sharing in the excitement of his favourite team’s victory with Arocho and did not pickpocket him, as some people analysing the viral video suggested.

During the incident, the man, who happened to be a Manchester United fan, was in close proximity to Arocho and enthusiastically celebrated.

Owira expressed frustration at being linked to the robbery.

He explained that he had a VIP wristband and was sitting in the VIP pavilion. However, his love for football and desire to join the celebration led him to become involved in the scene.

"I have been getting many tags, calls and cyber trolling since yesterday's scene after one of our beloved sports journalists, Fred Arocho, lost his phone in a charged fans' corner. Cameras captured me dancing next to Arocho.
I have seen how some people have reacted to it, some positively, and others negatively, which is okay. I personally have never and will never be fond of such acts," Owira wrote.

Additionally, he clarified that he met Arocho after the incident, and they reviewed the video together. Arocho confirmed that Owira was not the thief.

"Today (Sunday, April 14) during the finals when I met Arocho at the VIP stand, we sorted the issue after he reviewed the video in my presence and verbally said it's not me," he added.
