David Ouma became a street boy in Kisumu at five and was raised in a children's home, which offered him refuge and a chance at a new life.

He is now a 20-year-old second-year student at Maseno University and has embarked on a search for his roots that reads like a script from a drama.

Ouma has little recollection of his past

In an interview with TUKO.co.ke, Ouma explained that he couldn't remember much since he was still too young when the separation happened.

"We jumped on a truck on the main road which is how I ended up in the streets until I was rescued by the guardians who raised me," he started.

He expressed his desire to reunite with his family despite the fragile threads that connect him to a life he once knew.

Ouma says he has tried reconnecting with his family through the authorities in Kendu Bay but has made little progress.

"The people I live with in Busia have requested me to look for my roots because I am old enough to be my own man now," he said.

Ouma Doesn't remember father's name

With his past a distant yet ever-present memory, he has scanty details and only remembers that his mother’s name is Irene from Gem, Siaya.

His father’s whereabouts remain a mystery, with only the knowledge that he worked in Nairobi when he was last home.

"I have no recollection of my father's name, but I remember my mother used to sell fish at Kendu junction," he said.

Ouma also knows that he is the third child in the family, with Reagan being the eldest brother and Lilian being the second child.

Man who disappeared 27 years ago found alive in neighbour's house

In an unrelated story, Omar Bin Omran, aka Imran, disappeared nearly 30 years ago when he was only 17 years old as he headed to college.

After years of searching unsuccessfully, his family gave up and concluded he died during the civil war in the 1990s and early 2000s.

They were shocked when the now-45-year-old was found in his neighbour's house less than 200 metres away from that of his own family.
