Below is the list of new WhatsApp features you should know:

List of new WhatsApp features in 2024

1. Meta AI is available on WhatsApp

Zuckerberg explained that the Meta AI feature will allow subscribers to all Meta platforms to ask questions and get answers.

This feature was first introduced to users in the US, but the company plans to launch it in other countries worldwide.

2. Search or Ask Meta AI

This is the feature that comes alongside Meta AI. You can ask Meta AI a question.

WhatsApp and other Meta platform users can type their questions, and Meta AI will provide suggestions. Alternatively, you can keep typing to ask a question in full.

3. Undo the “Delete for me” feature

If you meant to delete a message for everyone in a WhatsApp group but ended up deleting it for you, Meta has got you covered.

Using the undo-delete feature, users can reverse the process and delete the message as they deem fit.

4. Pin important messages

If you have an important message you want to stay at the top of your chats, you can now pin it.

You can pin your message by pressing and holding the message and selecting "Pin" to keep it at the top of your group chat.

5. Protect backed-up messages

There are changes on WhatsApp where you can protect backed-up messages with end-to-end encryption.

The encryption feature was only for personal messages, but you can now extend it to backed-up messages.

You can turn on encrypted backups, set a password, or get a 64-digit encryption key; even WhatsApp does not have access.

6. Design your own avatar

You can now express yourself with a custom avatar feature on WhatsApp.

The new Avartar can create stickers for your chats or update your profile photo.

7. Preview voice message

You can now preview voice notes on WhatsApp before you send them. Here is what you need to do:

  • Swipe up on the microphone icon to lock it into record mode.
  • Preview before you send to make sure you said what you wanted to.
  • Play back at high speed to get through long messages faster.

8. Use two accounts on the same phone

WhatsApp launched a feature allowing users to log into two accounts on the same app and phone.

The accounts can be supported as long as the users have different phone numbers.

9. Password protect your chats with chat lock:

This feature was launched in May 2023, allowing users to lock conversations they deem confidential.

Zuckerberg said a user can deposit a chat to a password-protected folder.

With the feature, notifications for new messages in the locked chats are disabled until the folder is opened despite a prompt.

What to know about WhatsApp changes

  • In February 2023, WhatsApp introduced a minimum age policy for its users.
  • WhatsApp users can also report those who send messages that they find inappropriate or likely to be harmful.
