On Thursday, May 2, President William Ruto appointed Major General Fatuma Gaiti as an Air Force commander.

This was a milestone as Gaiti has now become Kenya's first female to be a service commander.

Gaiti first made history in 2015 after being promoted to the position of a brigadier, making her the first Kenyan woman to attain that rank.

Ahmed's promotion came after Ruto promoted Lieutenant General Charles Kahariri to General and appointed him Chief of Defence Forces.
