The Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions is set to arraign a court assistant who allegedly solicited a bribe from an accused person to help him get a favourable sentence.

Migori court official arrested

In a press statement dated May 2, the ODPP said the suspect by the name Shadrack Odhiambo solicited a bribe of KSh 100,000 from an accused person to help him get a lighter sentence in a matter that was before a Migori law court.

"Shadrack Odhiambo was found to have requested KSh 100,000 and consequently received KSh 20,000 bribe in order to help an accused person get a lighter sentence in a criminal case," the statement read in part.

DCI officer arrested for demanding KSh 10k bribe

On April 10, the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) apprehended a Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) officer for alleged involvement in extortion.

According to a statement released by EACC on Wednesday, April 10, the officer was said to have demanded a KSh 10,000 bribe from an individual who had lost a sum of KSh 115,000 to conmen.

The suspect told the complainant that the bribe was mandatory to facilitate tracking of the fraudsters.

Mombasa cop on robbery accusations

Previously, Mombasa detectives arrested one of their colleagues for allegedly stealing a resident's mobile phone, valued at KSh 25,000, during last year's Mashujaa Day celebrations.

The DCI officer is accused of robbing Rebecca Muindi of her Samsung Galaxy A31 phone while she was answering a call.

A report filed at Central Police Station stated that the suspect attempted to flee after snatching the phone.

However, Muindi, who worked as a fruit vendor, clung to a Tuk-Tuk and demanded the return of her phone.
