Saumu Mbuvi, the first daughter of former Nairobi governor Mike Sonko, has shared that her wardrobe is exclusively composed of locally sourced attire from Toi and Gikomba markets.
This statement was in response to Kimilili MP Didmus Barasa’s proposal that the government levy higher taxes on artificial nails and high-end garments.
Speaking in Vihiga, Barasa expressed his desire for the government to impose increased taxes on individuals donning apparel valued over KSh 10,000 and women's products like nails.

"I want the government to increase taxes to anyone wearing clothes worth more than KSh 10,000, ladies' products including nails and the be added to the Cash Transfer Programme. This can be made possible if MPs avail themselves and we change that into law," he said.
In a post on her Instagram Stories, Saumu disclosed her preference for modest fashion and her avoidance of artificial nails, stating that such luxuries are not to her taste.
"At least I wear clothes from Toi and Gikomba markets. I don't do fake nails, as they are not my things. I'm safe. Kenya, my motherland," she wrote.
Previously, Saumu took to social media to celebrate her adorable daughters.
The doting mother of two lovely girls celebrated the birth of her bundles of joy on International Women's Day.
While Sonko's granddaughters, Sasha and Umi, were born days apart, their loving mum celebrated them in one day.
She shared a familiar picture of them wearing matching outfits as she poured out her motherly love for her cute girls.
Mbuvi was sandwiched between her daughters, Umi and Sasha, who looked as happy as their mum in the family photo.
