On Saturday, April 27, a video of police officers and Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) soldiers engaging in an altercation at Likoni channel went viral.

This incident caused an uproar from netizens who slammed KDF soldiers who continuously assaulted the police.

Why the police and KDF clashed

According to a report done by Citizen Digital, the altercation occurred when the mentioned KDF soldiers arrived at the Likoni channel and obstructed it using their tactical military land cruiser.

Wilson Obege, the private security guard overseeing the lock, attempted to request that the KDF soldiers open the passage, which triggered the ensuing altercation.

When Obege realised that he was overpowered, he sought assistance from police officers who were manning the lock. The officer tried to reason with the KDF soldiers but ended up being assaulted too.

During the altercation, Obege incurred injuries.

KDF responds to assault video

KDF released a statement on Sunday, April 28, in response to the altercation involving its personnel and police officers in Likoni, Mombasa County.

They stated that military police and other investigative agencies are conducting inquiries into the incident to ascertain the cause of the confrontation.

KDF emphasised that the incident was deeply regrettable and underscored the force's commitment to the core value of professionalism.

KDF-police altercation in Lodwar

In other news, tension escalated in Lodwar on Wednesday, April 17, as members of the National Police Service clashed with KDF soldiers.

Police Corporal Cleophas Makhapila and three colleagues were manning a roadblock when they encountered soldiers aboard a water truck.

According to a statement seen by TUKO.co.ke, the officers hesitated to clear the path for the truck.

Enraged by this delay, the driver of the water bowser alighted from the truck and slapped Makhapila on his right cheek.

Another soldier from the truck then joined the aggressive individual, seizing the AK-47 firearm of the distressed officer.
