"Binod Babu Bastakoti from Pokhara died at around 8,300m, just above Camp IV, after he suffered from illness while descending from the summit point," Narbin Magar of Booking Own Pvt. Ltd. said.

Bastakoti, who stood atop the mountain early Wednesday morning, May 22, obtained a climbing permit from Yeti Mountain Adventure before shifting to another team from the high camp.

"Bastakoti was our client but he chose to join other Sherpa guides from the high camp," Magar said.

The organisers said efforts are underway to bring his body from the high camp.

Mt Everest: Which climber is still missing?

In a related development, rescuers are still tracing the mountaineer who lost radio communication with his host expedition company while scaling Mount Everest.

On Thursday, May 23, Khimlal Gautam, Chief of Expedition Monitoring, announced Cheruyoit Kirui's death.

The banker attached to the Kenya Commercial Bank (KCB) and Nepali climber Nawang Sherpa disappeared after scaling 8,000 metres above the world's highest mountain.

However, Gautam said Sherda, Kirui's guide, was still missing, but his search was ongoing.

Cheruiyot and Sherpa were part of the Seven Summit Treks, which attempted to climb Mt. Everest without oxygen support.

Speaking to the Himalayan Times, Seven Summit Treks chairman Mingma Sherpa said organisers lost contact with Kirui at Bishop Rock, just a few metres below the summit.
