Nairobi businessman Gibson Murage Gitonga has publicly apologised to Dolly Patron, an Embu woman he trolled on Facebook.

The controversy began when Dolly Parton contacted the entrepreneur, requesting that he purchase some of her non-stick pans as gifts for his wife.

The incident sparked outrage from his followers, casting negativity against his company.

In his apology, Murage explained that other administrators and moderators manage his social media page because he is in China.

"I was unaware of the exchange until a close friend called me out through WhatsApp. I cannot justify a wrong since it is negatively affecting my brand, and hence, I am offering this apology," he explained.

Murage's promise to Dolly

As a gesture of goodwill, Murage promised to buy non-stick sufurias from Dolly Parton upon his return to Kenya.

He also assured the public that measures would be taken internally to prevent such incidents in the future.

Murage's case blew up after lawyer Wahome Thuku shared the incident online, which quickly went viral.

Kenyans rallied behind Dolly on social media, condemning Murage's behaviour and offering support for her business.

Social media reactions

Murage's public apology and promise to make amends was commended by fans as an expression of his humility.

Kipkalya Ke:

"I appreciate you owning up to your mistake and apologizing to that fan. Takes a lot of guts to admit when we're wrong. Respect for setting a positive example!"

Gera The SELECTOR:

"The lady should contact or look for you! If I were you, I would offer to apologise and support her business."

Oscar Leon:

"At last, we have a "young man with money" who's not only accepted advice but followed it too. Well done."

Roygib Ghizzy:

"I know the response was due to confusing "petty" and "pretty." Going forward, don't rush to reply to a comment before understanding it."
