"It pains me to see a friend struggle to bury his own child. My friend Titus Odinti lost his 12-year-old daughter Michel Akoth, who was in grade 8 at Oten Primary School in Homabay County," he wrote.

The heartbreaking incident unfolded when the 12-year-old, a Grade 8 student at Oten Primary School in Homa Bay county, visited a friend's house.

Michel and her friend reached for what they believed to be a refreshing drink of juice-cola, unaware that the container they used to prepare the drink had remnants of insecticide.

Akoth's friend gets medical attention

After ingesting the toxic mixture, Michel returned home to her grandmother's care, where she tragically passed away.

Her friend, who also consumed the poisonous substance, was fortunate to survive after receiving immediate medical attention.

Titus Odinti, Michel's father, a carpenter by profession, has been unable to bear the burden of arranging his daughter's funeral expenses alone.

In a desperate plea for assistance, Odinti has been forced to return to Nairobi for menial work to supplement the family's income, leaving his wife behind in their village.

The family, already grappling with financial challenges, now requires KSh 150,000 to provide Michel with a dignified farewell.

In an interview with TUKO.co.ke, Odinti recounted the tragic events leading to his daughter's death.

"My daughter was living with her grandmother in Homa Bay. She was playing with her friend, and they went to drink Juicy Cola," he shared.
"The mistake they made was using a jug that had been contaminated with pesticide," added Odinti.

Parents heartbroken as their children are buried

A video by Ayo TV captured the heartbroken parents, surrounded by family, friends, and neighbours, laying their son and daughter to rest.

In the solemn ceremony tinged with unspeakable grief, the community gathered to bid farewell to the two young souls.

The children, whose laughter once filled their home, were remembered for their bright smiles and boundless energy.
