Speaking to the media, Naivasha OCPD Stephen Kirui confirmed the incident, saying the man attempted to take his own life after committing the crime.
Kirui said the man was in stable condition at Naivasha Sub County Hospital and would be charged in court with murder.
“The woman died on the spot while the man is in hospital undergoing treatment after a botched suicide attempt and he will be charged in court once he recovers,” Kirui said.
Preliminary investigations indicate the couple in their late 20s had fallen out after the woman learnt that the man was involved in another affair.
An eyewitness said the trouble started after the woman accused the man of cheating on her.
The two reportedly fought over the weekend, and neighbours managed to calm them before things changed for the worse.
The screams drew neighbours, and upon arriving at the house, they discovered the woman lying in a pool of blood while the man quickly rushed to the bedroom and curled up.
Emotions were intense as the police arrived to retrieve the blood-soaked body, while residents demanded to be allowed to discipline the suspect.
In other news, the boyfriend of 19-year-old Faith Musembi, found dead in her room in Thika, was arrested in Homa Bay.
The suspect, who is being held at Thika Sub-County Police Station, is a 25-year-old student at Tom Mboya University.
He is believed to have been in a relationship with Faith for six years, according to Lawrence Muchangi, the Thika Sub-County police commander.
Muchangi said investigations into the matter have pointed to alleged cheating and mistrust.
