Eyewitnesses reported that the trailer swerved off-road while attempting to avoid a Probox overtaking in the wrong lane, resulting in a head-on collision with the Nanaki Sacco matatu.

The crash left eight others injured, requiring urgent treatment at Nakuru Level 5 Hospital, while authorities continue their investigation.

Salgaa residents demand action after multiple accidents

Residents, deeply saddened by the incident, are calling on the government to expedite the completion of the Lironi-Mau-summit road to address the frequent accidents along the busy highway.

A woman expressed her frustration after witnessing multiple fatalities in the area within a week: four in the first accident, one in the second near the GSU area, and now two more lives lost.

"It really pains. We have lost seven people in one week. I am pleading with the government to help us get an ambulance on standby. Most of the time we use police vehicles but we really need an ambulance that can swiftly take accident victims to the hospital. And again, we urge drivers to be vigilant because these cases are increasing," she requested.

5 mourners killed in Salgaa crash

Meanwhile, on Saturday, May 25, a public service vehicle belonging to the Eldoret Crossroads Sacco hit the rear of a truck killing five people on the spot along the Nakuru-Eldoret Road.

A survivor of the tragic accident said the matatu was transporting mourners to Makueni.

Eight passengers who escaped death suffered fractures and cuts which needed to be mended in the theatre.
