Did Dr Ofweneke reconnect with his mother?

The TV host recounted how he only met his mother again when he was in high school, a reunion that came with its own challenges.

Although Ofweneke said he respected his late mum, he admitted having had a strained relationship with her.

"Nilikuja kukutana na matha nikiwa form three."
"Budangu hakuwahi niambia anything until ile time masangu alipass. Na buda alinipatia ile sanity ya kurespect mathangu na budangu at the same level. Of which I do until now, even my mum in the grave, I respect her to that level," Ofweneke disclosed.

Did Dr. Ofweneke forgive his mother?

Despite her efforts to mend their relationship, Ofweneke's struggles growing up, hopping from relative to relative and even spending some time on the street, weighed him down, making it difficult for him to forgive her.

He vividly described the efforts his mother made to reconnect, from buying him new items to spending time with him. Yet, the weight of the past made forgiveness a difficult prospect for him.

"Mother alitry sana kumend relationship yetu because mimi niligrow na bitterness ya ilelife nilipitia. Kuruka from one rela to another, some time pia nikachapa street kiasi..masuicide attempt...nilikuwa nafeel kuna kavoid na vacuum fulani yenye haijafilliwa and I didn't know at that time."
"So by the time nameet mum... mum alitry sana kufix na kumake things up. Every time nilikuwa naenda kumwona kwake every Sato kulikuwa na shati mpya trouser mpya and she'd always want us to spend time together," he recalled.

He said he carried that bitterness until she passed away without his forgiveness.

How did Dr Ofweneke react to his mother's death?

Ofweneke said that even when his mother tried to contact him before her death, he ignored her calls.

Moreover, when she eventually passed on, Ofweneke says he still didn't cry or mourn because they had not spent so much time together and did not have a strong bond.

It wasn’t until the dissolution of his first marriage to Nicah the Queen that the full impact of his mother’s absence hit him.

The realization that his children might face a similar fate of growing up in a separated family brought a newfound understanding and regret.

Suddenly, he missed his mother and regretted not having forgiven her even on her deathbed.

Ofweneke said that he drove home and cried alone for hours that day.

"Hata wakati matha alidie sikulia...lakini nakumbuka almost five six years later after marriage yangu ya kwanza imebreak na Nicah...ikanihit watoi wangu wanaenda kuraisiwa separately, this happened to me kitu ya pili marriage yangu ya kwanza imebreak, hivi ndo buda na matha marriage yao ilibreak..kitu ya tatu namiss mother," the comic narrated.
"Ikanihit sikuforgive huyu matha, na huyu matha alidie ka sijamforgive...alidie akijua nimemkasirikia na ilikuwa ukweli juu nakumbuka last minute nikilenga mpaka calls zake...mi sijui kama ako hosi," he added.

Ofweneke shared his remorse for not forgiving his mother while she was alive, a decision that haunted him long after her passing.
