Matatus are the common mode of transport in Nairobi and many other urban centres in Kenya.
Minibuses and 14-seater vans dominate the matatu sector in Nairobi.
These vehicles, usually decorated with graffiti and equipped with loud music systems, help Nairobians move from their residences to the Nairobi Central Business District or other workplaces.

Despite their important job helping city residents move from one point to another, some matatu crew members have been accused of lacking etiquette while handling customers.
Vulgar talk cases and defamatory statements are not new to matatu users, especially during disputes about bus fares.
TUKO.co.ke reported on an incident in which a matatu conductor (the person who collects fare) was arraigned for breaking the hand of a female passenger.
On the other hand, other matatu drivers and conductors have earned praise for doing noble things like helping women in labour pain get to the hospital for delivery.
In a case of satisfaction and appreciation, a Kenyan who boarded a matatu belonging to a popular sacco in Nairobi praised the crew.
The passenger who boarded a matatu belonging to Zuri Sacco, which operates the Nairobi-Githurai 44—Kahawa West route, shared their compliments on Sikika Road Safety, a page that posts content about road users and incidents and exposes rogue motorists.
"I have just used this Zuri matatu from Kahawa West to town, and I want to appreciate them for the following: they did not have excess passengers, they played gospel music and the sound was okay," the passenger said.
The satisfied client praised the matatu conductor for being calm and highly rated the Sacco's crew.
The compliments saw several other matatu users along that route echo their sentiments about Zuri Matatu Sacco's quality of service.
"They always play good gospel music," Isaac Wabomba said.
Felisters Kyalo said she enjoys her rides in matatus belonging to the Sacco, citing the good selection of music.
"Asubuhi huwa wanaplay (in the morning they usually play) gospel, which I always enjoy. Long live Zuri Genesis," she said.
Other social media users encouraged commuters to openly praise matatu crew members who follow rules and treat clients well, even as they equally called out rogue crew members.
"God bless them. Let's commend and encourage sanity on our roads, let's save lives," Herse Ali Barqash
Early in the year, Nairobians online shared why they preferred Super Metro, a highly-regarded matatu Sacco in the city.
They cited etiquette, adherence to road safety rules by the majority of the crew, and consistency in bus fare prices.
