As the country continues to grapple with the adverse effects of floods, Pope Francis, on Wednesday, May 1 sent his message of condolences for the victims of floods in Kenya.
Floodwaters have caused havoc in Kenya, claiming over 170 lives and displacing thousands.
According to a report by Vatican News, while addressing an audience in the Vatican, the pope further asked Christians across the world to join him in praying for those affected by the floods.
" I wish to convey to the people of Kenya my spiritual closeness at this time when a severe flood has tragically taken the lives of many of our brothers and sisters, injured others, and caused widespread destruction," Pope Francis said.

"I invite you to pray for all those who are suffering the effects of this natural disaster. Even amid adversity, let us remember the joy of the risen Christ," he added.
President Paul Kagame of Rwanda also sent his message of comfort to the victims of floods through President William Ruto.
He said that Rwanda is in solidarity with the people of Kenya.
"My sincere condolences to you my brother, President William Ruto, and the people of Kenya, for the families displaced and the lives lost in the ongoing mass flooding in Nairobi and other parts of the country. Rwanda stands in solidarity with you and the country in this difficult time," Kagame said.
According to Government Spokesperson Isaac Mwaura, 179 Kenyans have died in flood-related situations.
Of the deaths, 164 are adults, while 15 are children.
He also said the government had finished mapping areas likely to experience flooding and ordered those in such areas to relocate within 48 hours.
