Nairobi - Azimio La Umoja One Kenya Coalition Party Leader Raila Odinga has issued a warning about demolitions at Mukuru Kwa Njenga.

During the distribution of relief food to flood victims in Embakasi South on Friday, April 3, the ODM leader urged the people to call on them for support if the government continued with the plans.

Raila declared that they were ready to fight with the people, adding, "If they come with aggression, we are aggression."

"Now, I'm saying here that these people should not demolish the houses in Mukuru Kwa Reuben. If they try to demolish, it's on us; we will come, both us and you. We don't want that.
But if they come with aggression, we are aggression; we know aggression very well. We will come together to die together with you. Mukuru must stay! Leave the people of Mukuru alone," Raila declared.

What is Raila's alternative to Mukuru demolitions

The former prime minister asked the national government to find alternative accommodation for the dwellers before demolishing the houses.

Raila urged the government to exercise what he termed as humanity, adding that Kenyans are not wild animals.

"If these people want to relocate others, first build decent houses, give these people first, then you can come and demolish. But no, don't start demolishing people's houses where citizens live, and there's nowhere for them to go. Citizens are not animals, not even antelopes; don't you have a sense of humanity?" Raila posed amid cheers from the charged crowd.

Mukuru Kwa Reuben demolitions

Earlier, residents of Mukuru kwa Rueben found themselves counting losses after the government ordered the demolishing of their houses.

The houses that were brought down in Mukuru kwa Rueben were located near the riverbanks.

The Ngong River runs through the area and, at times, causes flooding in the slums during heavy rains.

The government thus ordered the houses demolished to prevent further deaths caused by floods in the country.
