Rita Waeni's Mother Shares What She Knew About Man Who Killed Her Daughter

• The late Waeni's mother revealed that her daughter met the alleged killer when she had gone to visit her friend in Nairobi West
• She disclosed that upon Waeni meeting the man, he never shared his phone number; he only asked for her Instagram account
• She added that the family was able to retrieve messages of Waeni and her alleged killer from a home phone that she used to log into her Instagram account

Rita Waeni, a 20-year-old student at the Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology (JKUAT), was murdered brutally in Roysambu in January.

Waeni's story went viral on Sunday, January 13, when her mutilated body was discovered in an Airbnb along TRM Drive in Roysambu.

The report done by Citizen TV revealed that Rita had travelled from her aunt's place in Syokimau to Roysambu to meet with the alleged Killer.

What did Waeni's mum say about the killer?

While speaking to TV 47 on Thursday, May 9, Waeni's mother revealed fresh details about what she knew about her daughter's killer.

Waeni's mother revealed that she knew her daughter's alleged killer thus revealing his name during the interview.

"I knew the person and he was C.M (full name withheld) but the platform or the conversation they were doing I didn't know at the time," she said.

She further disclosed that Waeni's friend had told her that Waeni had met the man when she visited her in Nairobi West. She added that the man didn't ask for Rita's contact information but rather asked for her Instagram account.

The mother revealed that Waeni's friend came to their home two months after her daughter's burial, claiming that she had a series of nightmares.

The lady requested to visit Waeni's grave.

"When we were almost having Waeni's birthday on March 28, she wanted to visit the grave. This is something that shocked me...That's how she had to explain to me what she knew."

The mother further revealed that Rita and the suspect had met twice before the ill-fated day, according to the messages they managed to get from her Instagram account.

"Waeni was using a home phone, where she had logged into her IG and for that reason we were able to see the kind of chats they had with the man since October upto the time she went to TRM," she added.

The mother stated that her daughter found it necessary to meet with the suspect, who purportedly stated his intention to leave the country on Sunday, January 14, just a day after the incident.

The killer had demanded a ransom

Earlier, on January 17, Waeni's father revealed he received a chilling message from her phone number, demanding a ransom of KSh 500,000 within 24 hours for her release.

Promptly, the family reported the issue to the police and the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI), prompting swift investigations.

Tragically, the family was unable to obtain further details or negotiate, as some demands were made after Rita had already been murdered.
