Former Nairobi governor Mike Sonko has extended a helping hand to journalist Kimani Mbugua, who has been grappling with mental health challenges.
Sonko's pledge outlined a comprehensive plan to alleviate Mbugua's difficulties by facilitating his transfer to a superior medical facility.
The pledge, made through his X handle, revealed that after consulting with Mbugua's parents, Sonko committed to settling the journalist's outstanding bills at Mathari Hospital.

Furthermore, Sonko intends to relocate Mbugua to Mombasa Women’s Hospital, a renowned rehabilitation centre, for continued care and support.
"In consultation with Kimani Mbugua's parents, I will clear his Bill at Mathari Hospital & transfer him to Mombasa Women's Hospital," he wrote.
The decision to transfer Mbugua comes with assurance, citing the successful progress of former boxing champion Conjestina Achieng.
According to Sonko, the former boxing champion is also receiving treatment at the same facility.
The move aims to give Mbugua access to better medical facilities and a conducive environment for his recovery.
In addition to medical assistance, Sonko has vowed to alleviate veteran journalist Eunice Omollo's financial burden by settling her rent arrears.
Omollo, a respected figure in the media industry, has encountered financial challenges, prompting Sonko to extend his support.
"I will also pay rent arrears of a veteran journalist Eunice Omollo," he said.
The media personality's father recently opened up about the factors surrounding his son's mental health problems.
He shared that Kimani’s then-girlfriend was the first to voice concern, noticing that Kimani was incessantly talking to himself at home.
He further explained that the trigger for this episode was an incident at Kimani’s birthday celebration, where some unidentified women allegedly spiked his drink.
