Speaking to the press while recuperating from the Nakuru County Teaching and Referral Hospital, Mercy Murgor recalled the driver going quiet, this arousing their attention.

"The journey was well and we were talking in the vehicle until we reached Salgaa when we observed the driver had gone quiet. We then resolved to engage him as he appeared to be asleep," she said.

Before they engaged him further, the vehicle was already off the road after hitting the truck.

Nakuru county police commander Samuel Ndanyi confirmed the accident, noting that the ill-fated matatu was headed to Nakurtu from Eldoret.
