Committee members from Kenya Kwanza include Marsabit MP Naomi Waqo, Ainaboi MP Samwel Chepkonga, Tharaka MP George Murugara, Malava MP Malulu Injendi, Matuga MP Kassim Tandaza, and Kirinyaga MP Jane Maina.

What will the committee do?

The 11-member committee must, within ten days, submit a report to the House indicating whether it deems the allegations against the Cabinet Secretary to be substantiated or not.

Bumula MP Jack Wamboka outlined three grounds in the impeachment motion: gross violation of the Constitution or any other law, substantial reasons to suspect the CS has committed a crime under national law, and gross misconduct.

MPs approve motion to impeach Linturi

Earlier on, Members of the National Assembly approved a motion proposed by Bumula MP to impeach Linturi.

MP Wamboka, who proposed the impeachment motion, alleged that Linturi mismanaged funds at the agriculture ministry, indicating incompetence.

In the voting process on Thursday, May 2, 149 MPs supported the motion to remove the embattled CS in solidarity with Wamboka, while 36 MPs opposed it.

Approval of an impeachment motion against a CS requires the support of one-third of MPs, equivalent to 117 members.

In the recent voting session, 188 MPs participated, with three absent. Proponents constituted 79.26% of the vote, while opponents comprised 19.15%.
