Ukur Yatani: Former Treasury CS Arrested By Detectives In Early Morning Raid

Ukur Yatani, the ex-Treasury Cabinet secretary and former governor of Marsabit county, has been arrested by officials from the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission.

EACC has been on the radar of government officials who purportedly involved themselves in corruption scandals during their tenure in different public offices.

Why has Ukur Yatani been arrested?

Allegedly connected to a corruption case involving significant sums of money, Yatani was apprehended during a morning raid.

He is slated to be taken to the EACC Integrity Centre Police Station, where he will face questioning regarding his purported role in the scandal.

According to a report by NTV Kenya, the arrest was conducted by elite sleuths from the anti-graft body who raided both his Nairobi and Marsabit homes.

Siaya governor and senior counsel James Orengo accompanied the former CS to the EACC headquarters.

Also on the detectives' watch is the incumbent Marsabit county boss Mohammud Ali.

EACC goes after Mwangi Wa Iria

In another story, the anti-graft body is also in pursuit of the former Murang'a governor Mwangi Wa Iria who has been evading arrest.

The DPP approved charges against the ex-county boss after investigations by EACC found out that he was allegedly involved in the illegal procurement of tenders worth KSh 140 million during his time in office.

His spouse and brother-in-law who were also dragged in the same corruption case had been nabbed.

Meanwhile, Wa Iria has continued to make public appearances on various occasions despite the ongoing pursuits against him.
