Singer Juliani has lamented after his Hip Hop City building in Dandora was demolished.

The centre, which has served as a vital hub for local youth and artists for over seven years, is being brought down due to its proximity to the Dandora River.

This follows an order by the Ministry of Interior that all buildings near rivers be demolished.

Juliani laments as Dandora building is demolished

Juliani shared a video on X showing an excavator demolishing the building as locals watched.

Captioning the clip, he said it was painful to watch.

"This is not the end but inauma. Sana!! To think that we were working on expanding to the neighbouring spaces and upgrading the facility," he wrote.

Hip Hop City team requests for prayers

Earlier, the Hip Hop City took to X to announce that it was facing demolition.

They also asked people to pray for them during these difficult moments.

"Speechless and sad. Got the news that our space will be demolished tomorrow, we are 30m close to the river, we have been in existence for the last 7years+. Kindly put us in prayers. Join us as we will be doing a press release tomorrow at DHC," read the post.

Chaos as 3 people killed during demolition of houses

In a separate article, residents of Mukuru kwa Rueben counted losses after the government ordered the demolishing of their houses.

On Monday, May 6, three people were allegedly killed in Mukuru and Mathare by bulldozers, precipitating chaos.

In Mukuru Kwa Reuben, angry residents chased away government officials who were demolishing houses in riparian areas of the slums.

Chaos and running battles reportedly erupted after two children were killed as bulldozers demolished the houses built in riparian areas that are prone to floods.
