As Kenyans grapple with heavy taxation, the government seems to be devising extravagant ways to spend taxpayers' money.

William Ruto's government has allocated KSh 11.5 billion for State House Renovation, according to Citizen Digital.

How will the money be used?

According to a Citizen TV report, estimates provided to the National Assembly Administration Committee indicate that the State House has exceeded its approved budget ceiling by KSh. 262 million for the 2023-24 fiscal year.

A budget estimate presented by the Controller of State House, Katoo Ole Metito, indicated that KSh 11.5 billion of taxpayers' revenue would be allocated to 13 projects. These projects include renovating state houses and lodges across the country.

The report stated that the State House intends to allocate KSh. 8 billion for salaries, operations, and maintenance expenditures.

Major allocations include KSh 655 million for ICT networking and communications equipment in Nairobi and KSh 3 billion for construction and civil works.

Expenditures totaling KSh 1.7 billion will be allocated for the refurbishment of State House Nairobi, while an additional KSh 433 million is earmarked for specialized plant, machinery, and other equipment.

How much will be spent on state lodges

The refurbishment of state lodges across various locations entails projected costs as follows: Eldoret, up to KSh926 million; Sagana, KSh388 million; Mombasa, KSh1.3 billion; Nakuru, KSh1.1 billion; Kisumu, KSh245 million; Kakamega, KSh265 million; and Kisii, KSh795 million.

Additionally, a mechanical garage is estimated at KSh428 million, while the refurbishment of Mtito Andei State Lodge is expected to cost KSh45 million.

Gachagua needs KSh 1 billion for office renovations

Earlier, Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua stirred up an uproar after he proposed KSh 1.12 billion to facilitate the renovations of his Harambee Annex office and Karen residence.

Gachagua defended his proposal, stating that his office and residence are outdated and in need of modernization.

an officer from Gachagua's office named Patrick Mwangi appeared before the National Assembly Committee on Administration and National Security said that the funds will be divided to renovate both the Annex office and the DP's Karen residence.
