Ed played for two seasons in the OHL for the Windsor Spitfires. He was drafted #1 by the Florida Panthers in the 1994 NHL Draft. He signed a four year deal worth $5.7 million with the Panthers in 1995. He was traded to the Vancouver Canucks in 1999 and played there until 2006 when he signed a five year $32.5 million deal with the Phoenix Coyotes.
In 2011 Ed returned to the Panthers and signed a four year deal worth $16.5 million. Jovanovski was selected to the All-Rookie Team in 1996 and was also a Calder Memorial Trophy Runner-up. He was selected to the NHL All-Star Game in 2001, 2002, 2003, 2007, and 2008. He won the Babe Pratt Trophy for the Canucks' best defenceman from 2001 to 2003. Jovanovski also competes for Canada in international competition. He won Silver medals at the 2005 and 2008 World Championships and Gold medals at the 2002 Winter Olympics, 2004 World Cup, and 1995 World Junior Championships.
