He co-created the DC Comics character Batman with Bob Kane. While Finger was alive he was not credited for helping develop the Batman character, but Kane acknowledged the fact after his passing. Finger authored many of the original Green Lantern stories in the 1940s and he co-created Green Lantern with Alan Scott.
After his passing he was inducted into the Jack Kirby Hall of Fame and the Will Eisner Comic Book Hall of Fame. The annual Bill Finger Award is given away at the San Diego Comic-Con international for excellence in comic book writing. Finger also has more than 140 writing credits for films and television including Batman, Superboy, Justice League, Teen Titans, Smallville, Young Justice, Gotham, and more. Bill Finger passed away on January 18, 1974 at the age of 59.
