Uganda - At least 10 people have been confirmed dead following a horrible accident along the Kampala-Fort Portal Highway.
Traffic Police spokesperson Vincent Twesige said the tragic accident occurred around 4am on Wednesday, August 28.
Twesige said the accident involved a Toyota Hiace taxi, registered as UBR 812G, travelling from Fort Portal and an Isuzu bus, registered as UBE 807T, belonging to the Pokopoko company, coming from Kampala.

Preliminary investigations by the police indicate the taxi driver lost control and veered into the bus's lane, resulting in a head-on collision
Twesige said the taxi operator and nine passengers, including eight males and two females, lost their lives in the crash.
"It is alleged that on August 28, 2024 at around 0400 hours at Kairura along the Fort Portal-Kampala Road, a fatal traffic accident occurred where an Isuzu bus of Pokopoko company collided with a Toyota Hiace taxi, resulting in the deaths of 10 passengers in the taxi, including its driver," Twesige said as reported by The Monitor.
The police spokesperson revealed that preliminary investigations show that the taxi driver caused the accident by driving recklessly.
An unknown number of passengers who sustained injuries were rushed to Kyenjojo Hospital for treatment.
According to the police, the taxi had been hired to transport mourners from Ntungamo to Kyenjojo for burial.
In other sad news, a sombre mood enveloped a family following a tragic accident on Eldoret-Malaba Road in Lugari Constituency, which claimed the lives of five relatives.
The incident occurred on Sunday, August 25, when a speeding oil tanker collided with a tractor, lost control, and eventually crashed into the family’s Probox car.
Simon Koskei, the father-in-law of the deceased, shared that the family had gone to get the woman when the collision happened, as Citizen TV reported.
