Several families have been thrown into mourning after a horrible accident left at least 48 people dead in Nigeria.

Which road did the Nigerian fuel tanker accident happen on?

CNN reported that the Sunday, September 8 accident happened after a fuel tanker exploded following a collision with a truck along the Lapai-Agaie Road, about 2km from the Dendo community.

According to the State Emergency Management Agency, the fuel truck collided head-on with a truck ferrying passengers suspected to be cattle dealers.

The officials said several other vehicles, including a crane and a pickup truck, were also involved in the grisly accident.

Eyewitness accounts said the collision was so severe that it resulted in a huge fire outbreak.

What Governor Mohammed said about the accident

Witnesses said the inferno rapidly spread to nearby properties, causing the destruction of the affected properties and leaving trails of devastation.

The Governor of Niger State, Mohammed Umar Bago, expressed sadness over the loss of 48 persons and an undisclosed number of cattle in the tanker explosion.

Officials said most of the victims were burnt beyond recognition, making it difficult for proper identification by the rescuers.

Over 50 cows were also burnt beyond recognition following the crash.

3 people killed in Kericho accident

In other news, three people were confirmed dead in the Kapmakaa area after a collision involving multiple vehicles along the Kericho-Mau Summit Road.

According to the police, the accident occurred after a Toyota Hiace matatu en route from Londiani to Kericho collided with an oil tanker.
