Bomet Man To Graduate 21 Years After Joining University As Well-wishers Clear His KSh 229k Arrears

Maxwell Kimetto, a very patient man, is set to graduate from the esteemed Kenyatta University (KU) 21 years after he first entered the institution.

Where is Sotik Sub-county?

The 43-year-old, who comes from Kambira village, Kapletundo Ward, Sotik Sub-county in Bomet county, joined KU in 2003 to pursue a Bachelor of Education Science (B.ED) in Chemistry and Maths.

According to Senator Hillary Sigei, Kimetto completed all the units, including teaching practice. In a strange twist of fate, he is yet to graduate due to fee arrears amounting to KSh 228,610 two decades later.

"Maxwell, a family man, has worked as a Board Of Management (BOM) teacher in 27 schools to support his family while yearning to complete his education. Several students have successfully gone through his hands, graduated, and are already employed by TSC," said Sigei.

How did Maxwell pay off his arrears?

According to Bomet resident Kevin Kipchirchir Ufa, Kimetto has really tried to make ends meet and pay off his arrears.

"Well-wishers have tried fundraising, helping him and here and there, but it didn't amount to much. We are happy that things are moving in the right direction," shared Kipchirchir.

Although the years have passed, Kimetto's dream of earning his degree has never faded in his heart.

"Together with his friends and other well-wishers, I had an opportunity to meet Maxwell and supported him to ensure that his dream is actualised," said Sigei.
"I am glad that this year, 2024, will be a dream come true for Maxwell, as he will be among the graduates- a moment that will change his life for good," he added.

Man who started with diploma gets master's degree

Meanwhile, Lawrence Lorien Ekru was among the students who recently graduated from Mount Kenya University (MKU).

The elderly man shared his inspirational story about graduating with a master's degree, saying he started at the diploma level.

The man from Samburu county impressed many netizens, who headed to the comment section to react.
