The family refuted claims that their son took away his life by throwing himself in a septic tank, as were the prior reports.
"One of his schoolmates said they were queueing to use the toilet. They were many so they took a little longer. After taking a long time, a teacher started chasing them with a stick, so they started running. John-Mark, one of them, stepped and slipped on the open septic. It did not have a cover," she told Citizen TV Kenya.
The grieving family of the teenager blamed the school's administration for their negligence after the death of the Form Two student.
"The school should come out and accept that they did not do their due diligence on living with the children in school with a septic tank that is widely opened without a cover," the Siaya mum said.
In a similar story, a young boy's bright and promising future was cut short unexpectedly after an accident at school.
Evans, whose uncle changed his name to Tiffany, fell into a two-million-litre water tank at Rwanyange Primary School.
Gregory Murithi, a journalist, shared the horrible and heartbreaking ordeal of how his brother found out about Tiffany's death.
According to a post, the water tank's outlet was spoilt, so the school allegedly sent pupils inside to fetch water manually instead of fixing it.
One learner got inside the completely sealed tank via the small opening to fetch water and gave it to other pupils outside the tank.
The water was only used for cleaning classes, so only pupils on cleaning duty depended on the tank.
