She highlighted the critical issue of absenteeism among young girls, particularly those from disadvantaged backgrounds, due to a lack of access to proper sanitary products.
"By providing sanitary pads, we are addressing a challenge that affects academic performance and confidence," Wambilianga said.
The lawmaker said that the initiative is sponsored by President William Ruto, underscoring his commitment to supporting girls' education.
Wambilianga announced that the pads would be distributed across all schools in Bungoma and urged school heads to collect the supplies from their respective sub-county directors of education.
She addressed the rising issue of teenage pregnancies, asserting that any boy found to have impregnated a schoolgirl would face legal consequences.
"The recent cases of schoolgirl pregnancies have deeply troubled me; anywhere I walk in the National Assembly, everyone talks about it", she added.
In related news, youthful politician Namalwa Chesoli decried the high level of underage pregnancy in Bungoma County.
Speaking in Webuye on Saturday, July 27, Namalwa slammed old men who have the habit of seducing underage girls.
Namalwa, who is the founder of Hers Haven Initiative, said it is disheartening to find a man aged 42 having an affair with a girl below 18 years.
The youthful politician and entrepreneur asked local administration not to be used to hide culprits found to have violated the rights of young girls.
