The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) has announced the arrest of two suspected drug traffickers in Donholm, Nairobi.

The arrest was the result of a successful operation led by the Anti-Narcotics Unit (ANU), which is domiciled at the DCI headquarters.

The suspects, Teresia Nduku, a Kenyan national, and Simba Kitwana Khamri, a Tanzanian citizen, were apprehended in connection with trafficking a rare form of cannab*s sativa.

Suspect's home search

The two individuals were subsequently taken to their residence in the Manyanzani area of Tala, Kangundo Sub-County.

"Following their capture, the cunning suspects guided detectives to their abode in Manyanzani area in Tala Kangundo Sub-County. During a thorough search of their house, authorities unearthed a backpack with a cunningly concealed compartment housing cannab*s sativa, alongside a digital scale and various incriminating documents," DCI said on X.

Unique substance in Kenya

Investigations revealed that the cannab*s sativa in question is a unique strain originating from foreign sources and smuggled into Kenya via the Namanga border.

Simba Khamri, the Tanzanian suspect, was identified as an expert in packaging and concealing the drug for distribution across the country and beyond.

DCI reported that according to intelligence reports, the street value of the drug is KSh 8,000 per gram, making it a highly lucrative substance in the drug trade.

DCI said that further analysis will be conducted to uncover the distinctive characteristics of this particular strain and noted that both suspects are currently in custody as authorities complete the necessary legal processing before they face charges in court.

Mathe wa Ngara arrested

In other related news, businesswoman Nancy Kigunzu was arrested by DCI detectives after days of being on the run.

Kigunzu went into hiding after detectives raided her den in Ngara and recovered narcotics and KSh 13.4 million in cash.

Earlier, the suspect went to court to seek anticipatory bail accusing the police of unfairly targeting her.
