Defiant Gachagua Responds After Mt Kenya MPs Rally Behind Kithure Kindiki: "I Am No Fool"

Nyeri - Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has fired back at Mt Kenya MPs who recently threw their support behind Interior Cabinet Secretary (CS) Kithure Kindiki.

The embattled second in command took a swipe at the leaders, calling them out for what he termed as betrayal.

Speaking at the Central Kenya ASK show official opening in Kabiru-ini grounds, Nyeri, on Friday, September 13, Gachagua referred to the politicians as sell-outs.

The DP likened them to characters from an old Kikuyu tale involving a hyena and a hare, in which the hyena and the hare agree to beat their wives.

In the tale, the hare cleverly uses drums to avoid inflicting harm, leaving the hyena to do all the damage.

"Do you know our hyenas? Do you know them? Do you know them? Now our people, with everything that is going on, is there anything that you do not know? You know who the hyena is in this story, and you know the fools beating their wives. Despite the tribulations, I will stand firm. I fought for this government, and I will not move," Gachagua posed

How will Gachagua deal with critics?

The deputy president insisted that the MPs were motivated by personal greed rather than the interests of the Mt Kenya community.

He accused them of attempting to create divisions within the region for their gain, undermining the unity of the Kenya Kwanza administration.

Gachagua revealed his awareness of the political manoeuvring at play and his readiness to address it in due course.

"I do not know a lot of things. I am not so clever, but I am no fool either. There's is something that I know and when the right time comes I will speak," said the DP.

How many Mt Kenya MPs have endorsed Kindiki?

At least 35 MPs attended the meeting, while 13 lawmakers sent their apologies but were in concurrence.

In a statement to newsrooms, the lawmakers said they had unanimously resolved that the Interior CS would be their link to the national government.

The lawmakers further resolved to form a coordinating committee to link them and the executive.

They decried that their efforts to consolidate development had been frustrated previously due to the lack of a focal point of reference around whom the people's interests and priorities could be channelled to the government for actualisation.
