Eduardo Valseca was the son of Jose Garcia Valseca, a Mexican entrepreneur who founded over 40 newspapers in the country. His abductors assumed he was wealthier than he was, partly due to his father's fortune. 14 years later, he works with the local authorities to fight organized crime in his home country.

Eduardo Valseca's early life

Valseca grew up in Mexico alongside nine siblings. His father was a famous newspaper baron who gave his children a decent lifestyle and a firm foundation to start their own ventures.

Eduardo and Jayne Valseca

Eduardo met his wife, Jayne Rager Valseca, in 1992. She was an actress who appeared in TV commercials and movies. Eduardo was an art dealer previously married, but his first union ended in divorce. They hit it off shortly afterwards and tied the knot on July 9th, 1994. The couple has three children: Fernando, Emiliano, and Nayah.

Before the abduction, the family resided in San Miguel de Allende, Central Mexico, at a ranch they purchased after running a successful business tearing down and renovating houses. The pair also founded the Waldorf Schools located near the ranch.

Eduardo Valseca's net worth

The father of three made a fortune from his business pursuits, especially at the Central Mexico ranch. Unfortunately, his exact net worth remains undisclosed.

Eduardo kidnapped in Mexico

The Valseca family's life took a turn on June 13th, 2007, when armed men attacked the couple as they headed back home from dropping their children at Waldorf. The men blinded Eduardo and Jayne using pillowcases before driving them off in an SUV. After a few miles, they moved Valseca to a different car and abandoned his wife on the streets.

Eduardo's kidnapping marked the beginning of a difficult season for his family. His wife reported the incident to the authorities, and together, they launched a spirited search for the businessman.

How long was Eduardo Valseca held captive?

The father of three was held hostage for seven months. During this time, he endured immense torture, living in a wooden cage and surviving on eggshells and chicken bones. The kidnappers beat him up and shot him in the hand and leg.

According to Eduardo, loud music continuously played near the poorly lit space, making it difficult for him to sleep. He used a bucket as a makeshift toilet and kept in touch with his wife through videos, letters, and phone calls. In one of the letters, the Mexican wrote,

I am suffering more than I can manage. They beat me, they tie me up, I’m naked, I haven’t eaten, I’m going crazy, I can’t handle this torture anymore.

The abductors had asked for a ransom of $8 million, which his family could not afford. However, after months of negotiation with Eduardo's wife, they settled for a lower amount that remains undisclosed. The parties agreed on the amount after Jayne staged a relocation to America, which worked in her favour. Valseca was released on January 24th, 2008.

What happened to Eduardo Valseca's wife?

In many ways, Jayne Valseca remains the hero of the story. Her boldness in the face of tragedy has inspired her children and thousands of netizens. Eduardo's wife narrated her experience in the book We Have Your Husband (2011), co-written by Mark Ebner and J.B White.

Unfortunately, the former American actress battled inflammatory breast cancer and recovered after receiving treatment in America. Two weeks after her husband's release, she was re-diagnosed with the same condition.

Valseca's wife died on May 3rd, 2012, after a long fight with the terminal disease. She died at 45 years old, and her husband described losing Jayne as the worst thing in his life, even more than the kidnapping. The family shared their story on NBC's Dateline in an episode dubbed The Ranch. In one of the episodes, the deceased shared her kids' experience, saying,

The little kids would go up to my children and say things like, ‘Oh, I heard your daddy’s dead, that they found him in a–in a plastic bag in the Park de Juarez (Mexico).'

What is Eduardo Valseca doing today?

After escaping death at the hands of his abductors, Eduardo and his family moved back to Maryland, Washington D.C, his wife's home area, for fear that his life could still be in danger. Currently, the businessman survivor is an advocate for kidnap victims in Mexico and helps raise awareness about organized crime and its effect on innocent civilians.

Is Eduardo Garcia Valseca remarried?

Jayne's husband has maintained a low profile since moving to Washington. It is not clear whether he has moved on after losing his wife. His children Fernando, Emiliano, and Nayah, who were 12, 7, and 6, at the time of his abduction, also reside in America.

Unfortunately, they have kept a low profile and have not disclosed their personal information online. According to Sportskeeda, Fernando resides in Colorado and works for a solar company, while Nayah spends a lot of time travelling locally and internationally.
