Eric Omondi: Angry Mombasa Youths Stop Police From Arresting Comedian

Comedian turned political activist Eric Omondi has had a close shave with plainclothes police officers in Mombasa.
Why did cops want to arrest Eric Omondi?
Eric, who has been agitating for better governance and rallying youths to oppose government incompetence, took his campaigns to the coastal region.
The Wednesday, September 11 rally at the Tononoka Grounds was ongoing when cops approached Eric, seemingly in a bid to arrest him.

One of the officers held Eric's hand as they walked and had a conversation.
However, the youths noticed something was amiss and immediately surrounded them, shouting angrily.
The comedian stopped the youths from attacking the cop by urging them to calm down.
The cops safely left the area as Eric returned to address the hundreds of youths.
"Do we have bad intentions? Have we participated in demonstrations? We are peaceful and just talking. We have not thrown stones or burned anything.
"We have freedom of speech. When we protest, they kill us, and we come to talk, they want to arrest us. What do they want?" he wondered as the charged crowd responded.
Eric said he was being arrested for no reason while lauding the youths for saving him.
“We had a permit from both the county and the police, and yet they came for me.”

What did Eric Omondi tell William Ruto?
In June, Eric was arrested while demonstrating outside Parliament.
Eric was riding on a horse in a group of a few individuals protesting over the Finance Bill 2024 before police officers quickly arrested him.
However, the unbowed activist sent President William Ruto a defiant message.
