She encouraged Waiguru to aim for higher positions, pointing out that as her 10-year tenure as governor comes to an end, it's an opportune moment to seek a more prominent role in the country.

"You've served as the governor and as a Cabinet secretary. So don't be scared of moving forward because you are capable," she said.

Kwale Governor Fatuma Mohammed Achani echoed Ngilu’s remarks by praising Waiguru’s leadership as the chair of the Council of Governors and stating that she has effectively guided the country’s governors.

"You're doing a great job. You're leading all the governors in the country very well. I also see that you're now ready to move to the next level," she stated.

She suggested that Kirinyaga county find a new governor, as Waiguru is suited for a more significant role.

Ruto hints at picking woman as his deputy in future

In a separate development, President William Ruto tasked UDA party chairperson Cecily Mbarire with creating regulations requiring a male presidential candidate to run with a female vice presidential candidate and vice versa.

During the launch of the Women Governors Caucus G7 Strategy in Nairobi, the president vowed to stay committed to fully implementing the two-thirds gender rule under the Kenya Kwanza government.

Ruto highlighted the exceptional reliability of women, citing his experiences as deputy president and his reflections on the 2022 elections.

Furthermore, he highlighted the instrumental role played by women in shaping his perspective.
