Kikuyu MP Kimani Ichung’wah has warned Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua against using his push for Mt. Kenya unity for personal gain.

The two have been at odds, with their differing views causing friction among Kenya Kwanza leaders.

While speaking in Meru on Sunday, September 9, Ichung’wah criticised Gachagua for promoting Mt Kenya unity only when seeking personal benefits that do not serve the region or the nation.

"In the past two years, since we assumed office, we haven't been urged to unite. Now, when someone seeks personal benefits like a chopper and extra funding, we're suddenly told to come together. That’s why we, as leaders, have chosen not to support anyone who only seeks unity for personal gain," he said.

Did Gachagua convince Mt Kenya to vote for Ruto?

He also rebuked Gachagua for tying his demands to the votes President William Ruto secured from the region, arguing that Ruto earned those votes through his own efforts and not because of Gachagua.

"The attempt to unite us to intimidate William Ruto, based on the claim that his votes were due to your influence, is misguided. Ruto campaigned to earn his election; no one voted for him because of someone’s persuasion," Ichung'wah added.

Buuri MP Kirima Ngushune echoed his statements, affirming that they would not withdraw from the government as their election was a result of their hard work.

"The language of dividing people from where they come from is no longer acceptable in Meru and they have no apologies to make. We are ready to work with and support the president," he added.

UDA MP asks Ruto to tame Ichung'wah

In other news, Embakasi Central MP Benjamin Gathiru criticised his Kikuyu counterpart following his remarks that allegedly belittled the second-in-command.

According to Gathiru, Ichung'wah has crossed boundaries to make such demeaning remarks about Gachagua.

He asked President Ruto to tame him maintaining that it was a shame for them as leaders to have Ichung'wah lead them while driving on a mission to abuse other leaders.
