Public Service Commission Job Portal Goes Dark After ICT Ministry Announces 40 Vacancies

Kenyans have shared mixed reactions after the government advertised job opportunities for them to apply, but the website with application details remained inaccessible.

On the morning of Tuesday, September 17, the Public Service Commission (PSC) advertised that the Ministry of Information, Communication and the Digital Economy was looking to hire 40 ICT Officers under Grade CSG 10.

The post by PSC then indicated that the details of the jobs and mode of application could be accessed via the commission's website, the deadline being October 8, 2024.

Jobseekers who had already viewed the ad and tried to access the PSC website, perhaps to try their luck by filing an application, were, however, astounded after realising the website was unreachable.

"Internal Server Error. The server encountered an internal error or misconfiguration and was unable to complete your request. Please contact the server administrator at webmaster@publicservice.go.ke to inform them of the time this error occurred, and the actions you performed just before this error. More information about this error may be available in the server error log," one of the messages that the server returned after TUKO.co.ke tried to access the website read.

The other message the server returned was:

"This site can't be reached; www.psckjobs.go.ke took too long to respond."

What causes Internal Server Error?

TUKO.co.ke contracted an ICT expert and a web developer, who said that the issue pointed to a potential software issue with the PSC website or an offline server.

"Server takes too long to respond - This usually means the server is either overwhelmed with requests or experiencing software problems but generally it means the server lacks capacity to serve its users.

Server can't be reached - This typically indicates a network issue or internet outage, but in this instance, it means the server is offline. If the server is not able to handle requests, usually it will shut down The solution is to use a more powerful server with proper monitoring to foresee possible issue before they bring the server down," the web developer explained.
