Eshibikhwa area assistant chief Emmanuel Shikanda said the body was found after neighbours noticed a foul smell coming from Imbugwa's house.
When the neighbours moved closer and peeped through the window, they discovered Imbugwa's body lying on the bed before notifying the assistant chief, who later informed the police
Police officers from Shikhoti arrived at the scene and removed the body to a facility in Kakamega, awaiting postmortem.
Vitalis Mulunga, a neighbour, disclosed that Imbugwa's death comes weeks after he allegedly sold his plot of land.
Days after selling the land, the deceased allegedly called his sister and told her that his estranged lover had stolen his money.
The family suspect Imbugwa took his own life after he lost the proceeds of selling the land to the woman he was living with.
"Tulipouliza familia, walisema kuwa marehemu alikuwa ameuza shamba, lakini alikuwa amepigia dada yake simu akisema ati atajitoa uhai sababu ule mwanmke anaishi na yeye amemuibia pesa," Mulunga said.
The family now awaits the outcome of a postmortem to uncover the truth behind their kin's death.
Elsewhere, in Siaya county, a 20-year-old man was killed under unclear circumstances in the Ukwala location, Ugenya.
Citizen Digital reported that the death of the man ignited tension in the area, which led to the house of the suspected killer being torched.
Siaya county police commander said a group of about 10 young men stormed the home of Okech Okwako looking for his grandson.
During the incident, the angry youths torched Oketch's grandson's grass-thatched house, burning it to ashes.
Police found the deceased’s body along Awendo-Diraho Road, about 200 from his homestead, with a deep cut on the left of the abdomen.
