Meru Governor Kawira Mwangaza has appeared before the Senate for her impeachment trial.
The Meru County Assembly has levelled three charges against her, including gross violation of the Constitution, gross misconduct, and abuse of office.
Despite these accusations, governor Mwangaza steadfastly maintained her innocence when questioned about the charges.

"Not guilty," she responded.
Meru County Assembly lead counsel Ndegwa Njiru accused Mwangaza of consistently having an escape plan and developing strategies to avoid accountability by shifting blame onto others.
In contrast, her lawyer, Elisha Ongoya, argued that the Meru County Assembly has yet to identify any wrongdoing by governor Mwangaza.
Ongoya contended that the assembly's efforts had been focused on making allegations designed to embarrass Mwangaza.
The governor has previously been saved from impeachment by the Senate on two occasions, in 2022 and 2023, and she is now facing a third impeachment trial.
A day after senators analysed her latest impeachment motion, Kawira expressed her confidence in God's protection.
She stated that God would defend her against her enemies and ensure she witnesses the downfall of those plotting against her.
The governor appeared unmoved despite the numerous efforts to remove her from office by the Meru Members of County Assembly.
