Nairobi - A new survey has rated Kirinyaga woman representative Njeri Maina as the best-performing county MP.

How have woman reps performed

The survey findings, released on Thursday, August 22, show that Maina outperformed her colleagues, scoring 71.9% in her interactions with the electorate.

Uasin Gishu MP Gladys Boss Shollei came in a distant second, scoring 68% in the survey conducted by New Timely Kenya.

Nairobi woman rep Esther Passaris came in third in the ranking with 67.6%, while Kailemia Elizabeth and Joyce Kamene closed the top five with 65.1% and 63%, respectively.

Christine Ombaka (Siaya), at 26%, Umui Kassim (Mandera), at 23.7%, Lilian Chebet (Trans-Nzoia), at 22.2%, Jerusha Momanyi (Nyamira), at 21.1%, and Rael Aleutum (West Pokot), at 19.9% are in the bottom five.

The survey noted that only 3 out of 10 people have seen or interacted with their county MPs since they were elected in the 2022 General Election.

Most Kenyans observed that sanitary towels and water tanks are the most issued items by the MPs, with little effort being applied to addressing boy-child issues.

How was the survey on Woman reps done?

The survey was conducted across 47 counties between August 1st and 10th, assessing public opinion on the two-year scorecard of woman reps' approval ratings.

It also sought to get the electorate's view on the performance of the county MPs and their engagement with the voters.

The survey employed Computer Assisted Telephonic Interviews (CATI) and involved a demographically diverse sample size of 2,554 respondents who were all registered voters.

The gender distribution of the sample was 65% female and 35% male, with a ±1.04% margin of error.

Another recent survey showed that former CS Fred Matiang'i would likely defeat opposition leader Raila Odinga if elections were held today.

The poll further stated that the majority of its respondents would have preferred a new presidential candidate.

Research 8020 reported that Matiang'i had gained considerable popularity, surpassing notable political figures such as Raila and Wiper party leader Kalonzo Musyoka.
