Manchester United's 2024/25 season is two games in, and they've already lost 2-1 to Brighton.

Despite a promising performance, the Red Devils conceded a late goal at the Amex to succumb to another loss to the Seagulls.

Man United boss Erik ten Hag appeared to direct blame to three players in his post-match interview.

The 20-time Premier League champions produced an encouraging first-half performance, but their former player Danny Welbeck gave the hosts a 1-0 lead in the 32nd minute.

Brighton threatened in the second half, but Amad Diallo equalised in the 60th minute following a counterattack.

Alejandro Garnacho thought he had grabbed the winner late in the game, but his goal was ruled out for offside. Man United failed to threaten after Bruno Fernandes was substituted.

In injury time, Simon Adingra looped a cross to the back post, and Joao Pedro had time and space to slot past Andre Onana, per Sky Sports. Despite the defeat, fans were pleased with the overall performance but unhappy with the defence on both goals.

Ten Hag on Brighton defeat

Speaking after the game, Ten Hag highlighted some positive aspects of the game, including buildup, possession, and defence.

“Not only counter-attacking but build-up, possession, how we defend,” he added. “I have seen some good parts, there were parts in the game, especially the second part, we should keep more control in the game, via Football365.

However, he was not happy with how his team defended Adingra's cross. Diogo Dalot, Noussair Mazraoui, and Kobbie Mainoo were the three players closest to the Ivorian.

“We didn’t stop the cross,” Ten Hag lamented. “There were three players, [Adingra is a] right-footed player. Send him down the line, send him wide instead of letting him come in and let the cross."

Man United can bounce back with a win against Liverpool next weekend before the international break.
