The crash is reported to have claimed the lives of majorly students who were heading back to school after the holidays.
Among the grieving families is Josh Otieno, a Kisumu resident who lost his wife and 17-year-old daughter in the tragic accident.
Otieno, still in shock, revealed that the fatal crash occurred just 20 minutes after he saw his family off.
He recounted that his wife and daughter had planned to board a different matatu but were persuaded otherwise.
Otieno explained that the conductor of the ill-fated matatu insisted they board the matatu, which eventually met with the accident.
"They wanted to board another vehicle which was not that one. But the conductor insisted that they must board that vehicle to Kisumu. We talked some few minutes after boarding the vehicle and then after that I only got a phone call from my son that both of them have died," he narrated
In a related incident, the man who survived the crash as those around him died was identified as a respected church leader and a dedicated patron of the Christian Union (CU) at Nyagoko School.
A close friend described the survivor, Daniel Osieko, as a man of deep faith who had a history of inspiring others through his spiritual leadership.
Dennis Onam, a fellow teacher and Anglican lay reader, shared his astonishment and gratitude about the incident.
