According to police, the driver learned of smoke emanating from the bonnet, prompting him to park on the side.

It ignited after he had disembarked.

The fire became full-blown, catching the attention of passerby civilians who gathered to have a glimpse.

Police showed up immediately, barring the onlookers from making away with the remains after the vehicle was completely charred.

It took the intervention of the Nairobi county firefighters to quell the fire.

However, at the time of their arrival, the vehicle had remained a shell of its former self.

The wreckage was pulled beside the road to open up traffic that had started building up; it was later towed to the Kabete Police Station.

The cause of the fire was not established immediately even as the probe started.

Luckily, all the passengers were safely evacuated from the burning bus, with no injuries recorded.

After evacuation, the passengers were transferred to a rescue bus and continued their journey to Mombasa, where they reached safely.

Reports indicated that the flames were caused by brake fluid at the rear wheel.

The bus company remained mum about the incident.

This came months after Kenyans sympathised with a motorist who watched helplessly as his vehicle went up in flames on Thika Road.

The unidentified man was spotted sitting on a stone a few feet away from his burning vehicle, his head cradled in his hands in a gesture of disbelief.
